2023- The book, French Blooms, floral arrangements inspired by Paris and beyond by Sandra Sigman was placed in the Portsmouth Free Public Library in memory of Dorothy Backman, Past President. (Mrs. William).

2023- The Book, The Gardens of Bunny Miller by Linda Jane Holden has been placed in the Portsmouth Free Public Library in memory of Marilyn Brockway, past president. (Mrs. Kenneth)

2023-- Three books on turtles ( for a favorite of our Turtle Lady"were donated in memory of Pamela Maxon to the Portsmouth Free Public Library. The adult book Our Sea Turtles A practicle guide for the Atlantic, Gulf..., by Blair and two Juvenile books Yoshi, Sea Tutle genius : A true story about an amazing swimmer, by Cox and Turtle splash! counting at the pond by Falweell were added.

2022-   The  book  American Roots ; Lessons and Inspiration from the Designers Reimagining Our Home Gardens was donated to the Portsmouth Garden Club in memory of Joy Schuur (Mrs. Theodore) who died in October.

    ---The Adventures of a Narrative Gardener, Creating a Landscape of Memory by Newporter Ronald Lee Fleming was presented to the Portsmouth Free Public Library in memory of Jeanne Wiant, Past President.

 

2020- The book Gaia's Garden, a Guide to Home-Scale Permaculure (Second edition) by Toby Hemingeay was presented to teh Portsmouth Free Puclic Library in memory of Margery Cunningham. (Mrs. Dale)

        -- The books The Informed Gardener and The Informed Gadener Blooms Again by Linda Chalker-Scott were presented to the Portsmouth Free Public Library in memory of Barbara Stenning (Mrs. Gordon)

 

    ---The books Gardening in Miniature by Janit Calvo and Miniature Gardens by Katie Elzer-Peters were presented to the Portsmouth Free Public Library by the club in memory of Cecelia "Ce" Borden.

 

2019- The book Heroes of Horticulture: American Who Transformed the Landscape was presented to the Portsmouth Fee Public Library in memory of Past President Evelyn Schultz,  by the club.

 

2018- --Two books, Designing with Succulents and Success with Succulents placed in the Portsmouth Free Public Library  in memory of Past President Lillian (Lil) Cerce (Mrs. George). 

 

2015 - Three books have been purchased by the Garden Club for our deceased Past President  Dorothy Leonard (Mrs. Arthur). As a Past President whose concern for the Environment was always evident. One copy of the Enchanted Frog: An Environmental Tale will be placed in the Portsmouth Public Library and in Hathaway and Melville elementary school libraries  in Portsmouth.

Additionally the book Foraged Flowers was placed in the Portsmouth Free Public Library by the club.

 

   -  Three books have been placed in the Portsmouth Free Public Library in memory of Cecile Howard. They are- Women of Steel and Stone: 22 Inspirational Architects, Engineers and Landscape Designers by Anna Lewis and An Authentic Garden: Five Principles for Cultivating A Sense of Space by Claire Sawyers and  On Chinese Brush Painting: Flowers by Lok.

 

    - A book entitled  The Bartlett Book of Garden Elements by Michael Valentine Bartlett and Rose Love Bartlett and The DVD The Queen's garden and the book, and the book The Royal Horticulture Society The Garden Anthology  were placed in the Portsmouth Free Public Library in memory of Borghild (Boy) Dyson  (Mrs. Edwin).

 

2014 - Three books placed in the Portsmouth Free Public Library

         entitled Pierced Flowers, and  Pierced Vegetables both   

               by Ruth  McDowell and  Garden Inspired Quilts by Jean and Valori

              Wells in memory of  Elizabeth (Beth)  Shimkus  (Mrs Albert).

          - Three books placed in the Portsmouth Free Public Library collection
                   entitled Botanical Knits, Botanical Knits 2: Twelve More 
                   Inspired Designs to Knit and Love by Alana Dakos and Onward

                  and Upward in the Garden by Katherine S. White (Author), and
                   E.B. White (Introduction) in memory of Roz Douglas
                   (Mrs. Philip).

          -Two books placed in the Portsmouth Free Public Library
                   entitled Pollinators of Native Plants:  Attract, Observe and

                  Identify Pollinators and Beneficial Insects with Native Plants
                   by Heather Holm & The Glory of Tree:  An Illustrated  History
                   Noel Kingsbury and Andrea Jones in memory of Marilyn Oglo 

                 (Mrs. Michael)
        -     Three books placed in the Portsmouth Free Public Library

               entitled Hostas (Foliage Plants in Garden Design) by Sandra Bond

               The Creative Shrub Garden: Eye-Catching

               Combinations for Year-Round Interest by McIndoe, and The New

               Encyclopedia of Hostas by Diana Grenfell and Michael Shadrack 

               in memory of Betsy Rountree (Mrs. Hoyt).

2012     -     Two books placed in the Portsmouth Free Public Library
                   collection entitled 50 Beautiful Deer-Resistant Plants: 
                   The Prettiest Annuals, Perennials, Bulbs, and Shrubs 
                   that Deer Don't Eat by Ruth Rogers Clausen;
                   photography by Alan L. Detrick and 
Green Flowers: 
                   Unexpected Beauty for the Garden, Container or Vase by
                   Alison Hoblyn; photographs by Marie O'Hara in memory
                   of Sharon Pelletier (Mrs. Paul).

             -     Book placed in the Portsmouth Free Public Library

                   More than 15,000 Plants 6,000 photographs in memory
                   of Josephine (Jo) Sousa (Mrs. Antone).

                   in memory of Shelia F. Dannaman (Mrs. Henry).

  

1996     -     Book placed in the Portsmouth Free Public Library
                   collection entitled William Merritt Chase in memory of
                   Florence L. Fischer (Mrs. Henry).

  

1994     -     Book placed in the Portsmouth Free Public Library
                   collection entitled A Passion for Daylilies in memory of
                   Clarice L. Fay (Mrs. Elmer).

 

1993     -     Two Books placed in the Portsmouth Free Public Library.
                   One in the Adult collection entitled Seasonal Wreaths 
                   from Caprilands and one in the Children's collection
                   entitled Incredible Plants in memory of Helen O’Neil
                   (Mrs. James). 

 

1992     -     Two books placed in the Portsmouth Free Public Library
                   collection entitled Tulips and Arranging Flowers Naturally
                   in memory of Betty Russell (Mrs. Carl).

 

             -     Book placed in the Portsmouth Free Public Library
                   collection entitled The Natural History of Wild Shrubs
                   and Vines in memory of Mrs. Jacob Menzi (Jr.).

  

1991     -     Two books placed in the Portsmouth Free Public Library
                   entitled Reflections of Nature and The New England
                   Herb Gardener in memory of Elizabeth Q. Wilkey
                   (Mrs. Henry).

                   entitled On flowers in memory of Doris Hodges
                   (Mrs. Fredrick).

 

1983(?) -     Book placed in the Portsmouth Free Public Library
                   collection entitled New Approaches to Design Principles
                   in Floral Design in memory of Dorothy Dwelly (Mrs. Paul).

                   Lillian Menzi (Mrs. Jacob).

                   (Mrs. Thomas).

                   memory of Mrs. Ruth Gottlieber (also the mother of club
                   president Betsy Rountree).

 

1975     -     Book placed in the Portsmouth Free Public Library
                   collection entitled Art of Drying Plants and Flowers in 
                   memory of Mrs. James Mooney.

 

             -     Book placed in the Portsmouth Free Public Library
                   collection entitled The Herb Garden in memory of
                   Mrs. Robert Chappell.

  

1974     -     Book placed in the Portsmouth Free Public Library
                   entitled Hybrids and Hybridizers, rhododendrons and
                   azaleas for Eastern North America in memory of
                   Lillian E. S. Boone (Mrs. Alexander S. Boone).

 

1973     -     Book placed in the Portsmouth Free Library collection
                   on wildflowers (may be Wildflowers by Storrs but book
                   has been rebound and bookplate dedication is not
                   present) in memory of Mrs. Herbert Spencer.

 

1961     -     Book placed in the Portsmouth Free Library collection
                   (entitled ?) in memory of Mrs. Albert Bellevance.

  

1959     -     Book placed in the Portsmouth Free Library collection
                   entitled Dahlias in memory of Evelyn Chase (no longer
                   available).

 

1957     -     Book placed in the Portsmouth Free Library collection 
                   entitled Studio Book of Flowers and Flower
                   Arrangements in memory of Mrs. Jacob Menzi (Sr.)
                   (no longer available).

 

1955-1957 - 5 books (no names) donated as memorials (no names).
